Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) said Thursday that it has appointed Romnesh Lamba as Executive Vice President, responsible for Market Development, and Stewart Shing as Adviser, both of which are new positions.

According to a statement released by HKEx, Lamba will join the exchange on Feb. 8, and will be a member of the Senior Management Committee. Shing, who was HKEx's Head of Clearing before he retired last year, will start in his new role on Feb. 1. Both will report directly to Charles Li, Chief Executive of HKEx.

According to the HKEx, Lamba has 25 years of experience in the financial services industry. He worked in the United States for nine years before moving to Hong Kong in 1994.

Since November 2008, Lamba has been a Senior Advisor to JP Morgan's Asia ex-Japan Corporate Finance and Capital Markets business. He has also worked at Merrill Lynch Asia Pacific for eight years as a Managing Director and served as the Chief Operating Officer of the firm's China Origination business.

Shing has approximately 40 years of securities operations and business management experience. He was HKEx's Head of Clearing between December 2003 and April 2009. He served as Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company Limited between 1996 and 2001. Shing has also been a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

HKEx Chief Executive Charles Li said in the statement that Stewart's "substantial experience in Hong Kong markets", combined with "Romi's broad background", will be instrumental in enhancing the future growth and development of HKEx.
