Adjust font size:

The Three Gorges Power Station and Gezhouba Power Station on the Yangtze River will generate 66 billion kwh of electricity by the end of this year, two billion kwh more than planned, according to China Yangtze River Three Gorges Project Development Corporation (CYRTGPDC).

The two power stations generated 47.782 billion kwh by the end of September this year, reaching 72.4 percent of what was expected.

It is expected that the three gorges power station will generate 50 billion kwh of electricity this year alone, while Gezhouba will reach 16?billion?kwh.

The Three Gorges Project has put into operation generators with a combined installed capacity of 9.8 million kw, or one tenth of the installed capacity of all Chinese hydropower plants, and Gezhouba is 2.1 million kw.

Currently, the project encompasses 14 generating units on the northern bank of the Yangtze River and 12 units on the southern bank, each with an installed capacity of 700,000 kw.

Since the Yangtze River has seen abundant water resources this autumn and three generators have been put into operation ahead of schedule, the two power stations are very likely to generate more electricity than expected this year, company sources said.
