Forest Fire in Inner Mongolia Brought Under Control
Adjust font size:

The forest fire that broke out Wednesday night in a mountain area of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has been under control, local government said Friday afternoon.

A total of 1,387 fire fighters and forest police officers were mobilized Thursday evening to put out the forest fire in the Gaojishan forestry located in the Uynur Township of the Hulun Buir City.

By the early morning of Friday, most of the fires had been quenched. There was no strong wind in the afternoon in the forestry, so the fire did not recover and was "basically brought under control," according to local officials.

No casualties have been reported.

Forest police officers and staff members of the forestry are still stationed there to clear the scenes and guard against more fires.

The Gaojishan mountain area is covered with thick springwood of birch and has a very complicated topography. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
