Ministry of Health Press Release (April 26) on SARS

The Press Office under the Ministry of Health published Saturday afternoon a press release on the latest SARS situation on the Chinese mainland. According to an Urgent Notice from General Office under the Ministry of Health on Standardizing Reports on Infectious SARS, the SARS reports will be put under and managed by the Managing System of National Disease Reports as of April 26. Health bureaus of all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities on the mainland must report SARS situation by 12:00 am, the deadline, to the Ministry of Health and the report must cover all situations and data they collect before 10:00 am.

On April 26, 10 provinces reported new SARS cases, six provinces reported new suspected cases and 15 provinces reported no cases. By 10 am of April 26, 26 provinces reported SARS cases.

From 8 pm of April 24 to 10 am of April 26, China reported 154 new cases (including 8 medical workers), 8 patients recovered and 7 deaths.

Of these figures:

Beijing reported 113 new cases, 3 patients recovered and 6 deaths
Tianjin reported 1 new case
Hebei reported 3 new cases
Shanxi reported 22 new cases
Inner Mongolia reported 4 new cases
Henan reported 1 new case
Hubei reported 1 new case
Guangdong reported 5 new cases, 5 patients recovered and 1 death
Sichuan reported 1 new case
Shaanxi reported 3 new cases

By 10 am of April 26, China had a total of 2,753 SARS cases (including 588 medical workers), which included 1,285 patients who had recovered and been discharged from hospital and 122 deaths.

From 8 pm of April 24 to 10 am of April 26, China had 327 new suspected cases, including 173 from Beijing, 27 from Tianjin, 9 from Hebei, 18 from Shanxi, 18 from Inner Mongolia, 1 from Heilongjiang, 4 from Shanghai, 1 from Zhejiang, 1 from Anhui, 1 from Henan, 3 from Hubei, 61 from Guangdong, 2 from Guangxi, 1 from Chongqing, 3 from Sichuan and 4 from Shaanxi. By 10 am of April 26, China had a total of 1,730 suspected cases.
